Do you ever feel like your living space is holding you back?
I had a wonderful conversation with Claire Charters from The OM Collective on the power of Feng Shui.
Feng Shui is an important key to wellness and it focuses on the relationship we hold with our home, ourselves, and the outside world. During our conversation, we talked about the importance of showing up for ourselves and others, and how the positive energy and genuine intention we direct into these relationships can sustain healthy and harmonious relationships with ourselves, others, and the planet.
Bringing harmony and balance into our lives begins with our relationship with ourselves and the space which we call home.
Calling in the Elements: 5 Ways to Harmonize with Feng Shui
Historically, Feng Shui has five elements – Wood, Metal, Fire, Water, and Earth.
These elements generate an unseen energy called Chi, also known as prana or Qi, which flows through every living thing on earth.
The easier this energy flows around us, the happier, calmer, and more harmonized we become.
Simple actions like reducing clutter, keeping the home clean, bringing in natural elements and practicing gratitude for our belongings all help to unblock stagnant energy so that the chi can move freely around the home.
When we take action to make our homes and workspaces feel and look better, we develop a sense of feeling stronger, happier, and healthier. Creating an environmental sanctuary for the body to rest, relax and restore allows the whole body to calm and reset. A relaxed mind and body bring about a healthy and harmonious mind and body.
Part of Feng Shui in the home is about making an indoor environment feel like an outdoor environment by filling the home with a balance of the five Feng Shui Elements.
Here are some ideas:
Wood relates to growth and health. Decorate with driftwood or wooden bowls are great.
Bring GOOD SHUI into your home with easy-to-care-for indoor plants.
Fire fuels physical energy, passion, and creativity. Candles work perfectly. Triangular shapes are also great to work with.
Earth helps with knowledge and stability, so anything made of stone is recommended in the home. You could bring in some crystals that resonate with you, or a potted plant. Incorporating earth colors such as sand, brown, terra cotta, and gray will help balance your space.
Metal cultivates strength, focus, and independence. A round vase, photo frame, furniture, or some artwork depicting the sun, stars, or sky can help bring this element into the home.
Water is all about abundance and wealth. Take care of the dripping taps so you’re not leaking any good fortune! You can add a bowl of floating candles or a vase of fresh flowers around the home to call in the energy of prosperity and flow.
